El Poblet
ALERT: THIS GAME CONTAINS FLASHING LIGHTS (but not excessively), BEWARE IF YOU'RE SENSITIVE TO IT.
ALERT: THE GAME SOMETIMES CRASHES AND NOTES STOP FALLING, PLEASE JUST RESTART THE PAGE OR DOWNLOAD THE EXECUTABLE (SORRY!). It's only available for Windows and the jam closed just when I wanted to upload the Linux and Mac versions. Just let us know if you need to try those builds.
Note: If the game doesn't detect the notes correctly when you start fullscreen mode, click on the screen, please. The fullscreen mode is implemented by Itch and we don't have control over that.
El Poblet
The game
El Poblet ( The village in catalan) is a rhythm game inspired by Guitar Hero, where you have to tap the arrow keys in sync with the music, as the notes fall from the sky.
The Context
The game is developed for the Pirate Software Game Jam 14. The theme of the jam is It’s Spreading, and this game is about the spread of gentrification (and to some extent, of capitalism) and how the elderly fight against it.
The gameplay
The fight of the elderly against the spreading of gentrification takes place in the streets! A gang of seniors is trying to sabotage the construction area of the new neighborhood.
The player will help them by pressing the arrow keys in sync with the music. The better the player does, the more the Yayometer© will fill, giving power to our old people to boycott the construction.
But if the player is out of tune, the Yayometer© will empty slowly, and if it fully empties, the game will be over!
The technicalities
The game is developed with Godot 4.2.
All pixel art assets were created with Aseprite.
The game is intended to be played in the browser. The plan is to port it to any desktop platform too.
The team
Figure 1. From left to right: Jacob, Eliimperio, and Devrique
Devrique
Sleepy software developer, vitamin D consumer, ferment lover and kefir daddy (drinking kefir while writing this text).
Eliimperio
Illustration artist, 3D and voxel addict. Sometimes I make art for videogames. I hate mondays.
Jacob
A two meters tall ball of meat interested in music, videogames (kind of obvious?), and almost any kind of artistic expression.

Hey! Version 1.1 is published and it will probably work better, as we did some bugfixes, including the one that tied the health loss to the Hz update rate of the screen. If you try it, let us know! The next version will probably bring a song selector, maybe with more difficulties and maybe with some new songs? Who knows? :D
I'm so bad at it, but it is a really cool game :D
You three did a great job in every aspect, be proud of yourself!
Thanks so much!!! and don't worry I'm bad too hahaha my partners and friends play better than me! xD
Nice game! The art is fantastic, the gameplay is spot on, making the action sync with the music is no easy task, and the music fits te purpose seamesly! It took me a while, but I finally could beat it! Congratullations!
I’m glad you liked the game and happy that you helped El Poblet to arrive to the best of their goals! :D Thank you for playing and for the feedback!
Thanks so much!! ^""
I absolutely had to master it – took me several tries to get a perfect score on the Yayometer© and empower those old folks!
The music slapped, the pixel art is incredible, the game is easy to understand and play, and the attention to detail in the background (while difficult to focus on while hunting that sweet high score) was humorous and well-executed
Nice job Devrique, Eliimperio, and Jacob! You all did a thing, and you earned a fan out of me (batteries not included)! WOO HOOOO!
My partner (artist) and her teammate (programmer, musician) submitted a game called Shade Strider. It’s an “endless runner” game, similar to Dino Run, and in the same genre as Temple Run & Jetpack Joyride.
If you are interested in reviewing their addictive and charming game, it would mean a lot to me if you gave Shade Strider (by TehRyan and Setteal) a try: https://itch.io/jam/pirate/rate/2491872
Glad you enjoyed the game enough to retry until the perfect score! And I loved to read your detailed feedback, thanks a lot for it! :-)
We’ll make sure to try Shade Strider asap! If it was inspired by Dino Run, I’m sure I’ll like it, as I love that game and runners in general. Thanks agaaaain! :D
Finally a game for us old-heads! The sprites are so adorable. I like the message of the game, and it was fun to play, but too difficult for me to reach the end of the song! You three should be proud!
Thanks a lot for the feedback! Glad to know you liked it in general, even if it was a bit difficult. We already thought about ways to balance it, so keep tuned! And thanks for playing! :D
